ImageFolio Batch IPTC Plug-In Released!

December 11, 2007 · No Comments

http://imagefolio.com/products/batchiptc/

ImageFolio’s Batch IPTC Plug-In adds batch IPTC editing (also known as metadata, keywording, tagging, captioning, etc.) functionality to ImageFolio Pro 4.x or ImageFolio Commerce 4.x.

With the base version of a product you can only add keywords and captions to one file at a time. With The Batch IPTC Plug-In, you and your users (if permitted) can batch IPTC edit your keywords, captions, and 42 other fields of data to thousands of files at a time.

Adminstrators and users (with permission) will be able to quickly add batch IPTC edit assets by:

Category - apply Batch IPTC to all assets in any category
Lightbox - apply Batch IPTC to all assets in any lightbox

What is IPTC?

IPTC data is a method of storing textual information in images. It was developed for press photographers who need to attach information to images when they are submitting them electronically but it is useful for all photographers. It provides a standard way of storing information such as captions, keywords, location and captions. Because the information is stored in the image in a standard way this information can be accessed by other IPTC aware applications. ImageFolio supports the IPTC standard. However, with ImageFolio you can now add IPTC to non-image files because of the way in which ImageFolio generates icons as thumbnails for non-image filetypes.

Usage

Log in as an administrator or user. While in Gallery Mode, the icon to do Batch IPTC is listed at the bottom of the gallery pages next to the Upload Files button. Click the Batch IPTC button to produce a pop up window from which you can add batch IPTC editing to any category or existing lightbox.

Questions
Will this resave my JPEG images causing loss to the quality of the images?

No, this will not resave your JPEG images. Our Batch IPTC tool can add IPTC to your images without having to recompress your images.

ImageFolio Pro 4.x or ImageFolio Commerce 4.x

Q. Is there a way to change the width/height of thumbnails and preview images in ImageFolio?

November 28, 2007 · No Comments

Yes, you can edit two files to change the thumbnail and preview image settings for ImageFolio, for both users who have permission to upload and administrators.

  1. Log into your server via FTP.
  2. Navigate to the cgi-bin/ImageFolio42/config directory.
  3. Download two files, admin_config.pl and post_config.pl.
  4. Open these files up in a text editor. You’ll notice settings in these files that you can change. The admin_config.pl changes settings for when an administrator uploads a file. The post_config.pl file changes settings for when a user uploads a file.
  5. Make and save your changes, then overwrite the existing files on the server.

Note: be sure to use a text editor such as SimpleText, NotePad, EditPlus, BBEdit, or Text Wrangler to edit any configuration file.

ImageFolio Link Upload Plug-In to Support YouTube, iFILM, Google Video

November 25, 2007 · No Comments

BizSecure has been working on a Link Upload Plug-In for ImageFolio Pro that will enable users to upload and embed files from popular third-party video sharing websites. Administrators and users will only need to have the URL of the page containing the video.

The upload process will be almost the same, except they will see a new link in their upload files window entitled Link Upload. By simply copying and pasting the URL from the video site and clicking submit, ImageFolio will grab the video, the metadata tags, and a thumbnail image for the video, and place it directly into the chosen category. Users and administrators will then be able to add their own tags to further define the video and make it searchable within ImageFolio.

Current supported sites include: ClipShack, Google Video, YouTube, iFILM, JumpCut, and Sharkle. The Link Upload Plug-In will also support embedding of entire websites and URLs of anything that is posted on the Internet. Additional video sites can be added upon request if there is enough interest, and if not, it is always available via custom programming.

Pricing has not yet been determined.

ImageFolio Commerce Testimonial

November 12, 2007 · No Comments

northernlight.jpg We first heard about ImageFolio in the October 2007 Buyer’s Guide of Rangefinder Magazine.

In the past, our studio has had to resort to software such as ROES and ProShots, as well as online photo galleries like Pictage and Digital Expressions, to post our weddings. As anyone who has used these services knows, there is a fee involved with all of them and most of them leave you with little control over the final prints. Now, we have ImageFolio Commerce installed on our servers. We can upload 600 (full sized) files in less than 5 minutes. No more slow FTP uploads that bog our computers down. We have all of the photos in galleries that we pick and adjust to our clients needs and best of all, every order that goes into the shopping cart, goes directly to us. We no longer pay someone else for our work and we get to control how the final prints look. We are looking forward to a huge growth in profits and we owe it all to ImageFolio.
